Roles and responsibilities: Role of the sector specialists
Reporting to the Grade 7 compliance lead, sector specialists also work closely with Economic Crime Supervision (EC-S) strategy leads and policy colleagues to:
- Monitor casework activity and operational performance to identify gaps in operational capability and evaluate the impact of learning activity.
- Build, develop and maintain capability across their relevant sectors.
- Support interventions including surgeries and digital classrooms, providing technical advice and support to caseworkers.
- Create and develop reference material for the EC-S Knowledge Library.
- Support the preparation of cases for submission to the EC-S Governance Panel (GP) for their sector.

- Attend and disseminate information from sector specific meetings.
- Support litigation activity including tribunals and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) activity.
- Feed learning needs into the Economic Crime (EC) projects and professionalism team who will co-ordinate the development of new learning solutions and approaches.
They will work with colleagues and partners to drive operational capability and ensure that we deliver world class supervision that protects the UK against the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing.
Sector specialists will be expected to:
- Maintain subject matter knowledge that enables them to provide their service to colleagues across EC-S, and other parts of HMRC where appropriate, in relation to their sectors.
- Role model corporate behaviours and values.
- Work in partnership with strategic leads and their teams, inform operational decisions and provide end to end casework support.
- Collaborate with EC-S policy colleagues to respond in a timely manner to changes in policy and associated legislation.
- Communicate regularly with EC-S policy and strategy colleagues to update them on risks observed and outcomes achieved.
