HCOTEG11150 - Introduction and overview of oils activity: Health and Safety: Compliance with H&S requirements
It is essential that before attending oil premises, all officers are familiar with the possible hazards to safety on those premises. You must comply with all reasonable safety rules laid down by traders, docks authorities and ship operators.
You must never take into an oil installation or on to an oil carrying vessel, matches, lighters, unapproved torches, calculators, radio pagers (unless they are BT safe-pagers), mobile phones or any other articles which are possible sources of ignition. Clothing and footwear which are capable of creating a spark, for example nylon shirts or steel tipped shoes must not be worn.
Additional information on the causes of fire can be found on the intranet in: About you / HR62011 - Fire and emergency.
