SW05220 - Registration and Enrolment: Appoint an HMRC Business Authorising Officer
The Shared Workspace Business Sponsor (SW Business Sponsor) is responsible for appointing HMRC Business Authorising Officers (BAOs) to each of their Rooms and for publishing any policies relating to these appointments.
There must be a minimum of two BAOs for each Room and sufficient BAOs must be appointed SW05220 to maintain customer service standards.
Note: The SW Business Sponsor is responsible for appointing to each Room sufficient BAOs to ensure that the BAOs can carry out all their responsibilities effectively and thoroughly SW03520.
The BAO has overall responsibility for coordinating and managing the activities of a Room and is crucial to the effective operation of the Shared Workspace service.
In many instances the BAO will be the manager of the HMRC Members of the Room or the team leader who has responsibility for the work being conducted within the Room but this may not be exclusively the case.
In all cases it is essential that the SW Business Sponsor appoints BAOs that satisfy all three of the following categories:
- Purpose – The purpose and content of the Room.
The BAO must have detailed knowledge of the business conducted in the Room.
- People – The membership of the Room.
The BAO must have an association with the HMRC Members of the Room and be able to authenticate any Customer Organisation linked to it.
- Process – How the Room is used including security.
The BAO must have an appropriate level of responsibility depending on how the Room is being used.
The BAO must successfully complete the online BAO learning on Kalidus, code0010372, before they start their BAO responsibilities.
