Background
The following notices can be manually issued
- an initial or subsequent award notice
- a reminder notice
- a decision (rejection) notice.
Issue one copy to each household or to their appointee for them to keep.

Note: When sending customer, staff or process data to another individual or team, make sure you follow the latest data security guidelines or contact the Data Guardian or Data Security Team for advice.
Step 1
Check whether there are any signals set. For how to do this, use TCM1000117
If the notice needs to be issued in a special format
- note the format required
- go to Step 2
If other signals are set, go to Step 2
Step 2
Consider the type of manual notice to be issued
If it’s a ‘TC601’ decision (rejection) notice, go to Step 3
If it’s a ‘TC602’ award notice, go to Step 4
Step 3
Establish the reason for the rejection of the claim. For how to do this, use TCM1000181
- enter the details on the manual notice as directed
- go to Step 5

Establish the customer’s award details. For how to do this, use TCM1000427
Note: These will be used to populate the manual award notice.

If there is no special format required, go to Step 8
If you have noted that a notice is required in Welsh, go to Step 6
If you have noted that a notice is required in Braille, large print, audio tape or disc, go to Step 7

Send the completed manual notice for translation using ‘Tax Post Direct’ (This content has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000)
Follow the guidance in TCM0138160

Send the completed manual form with form TC648 to the Visually Impaired Media Unit (VIMU). Follow the guidance in TCM0138120
Note: VIMU will issue the manual notice to the customer.

Update Household Notes with the appropriate message - MM04, MM05 or MM37 - from TCM0162080. For how to do this, use TCM1000001
- take no further action.
