TCM1000255 - How to check if Full Time Education (FTE) needs to be confirmed
Note: You can check if FTE needs to be confirmed using Child Benefit Service.
Step 1
Calculate the age of the child or young person
If today’s date is on or after 1 September following the child or young person’s sixteenth birthday, go to Step 2
If today’s date isn’t on or after 1 September following the child or young person’s sixteenth birthday, there is no need to confirm the FTE.
Step 2
- access Child Benefit Service desktop icon
- enter the customer’s NINO in the upper navigation bar and select ‘search’
- check the customer’s name and address in the top left corner of the screen to ensure you select the correct customer details
- check childrens summary for exclusion details of the child
- go to Step 3
If there is no Child Benefitrecord, go to Step 5
Step 3
- make a note of the AR code number and exclusion date as shown for the child or young person
If the AR code showing is ‘AR9163’, ‘AR9165’, ‘AR9193’ or ‘AR9198’, go to Step 4
If the AR code showing is not ‘AR9163’, ‘‘AR9165’, ‘AR9193’ or ‘AR9198’, there is no need to confirm the FTE.
If there are not any codes showing for the child or young person, there is no need to confirm the FTE.
Step 4
Compare the ‘EX’ date to today’s date
If the’EX’ date is after today’s date, there is no need to confirm the FTE.
If the’EX’ date is on or before today’s date, the FTE must be confirmed.
Step 5
On the tax credits computer, access the customer’s claim and navigate to the ‘Children’ screen to check if ‘FTE’ is showing to the right of the child’ or young person’s details
If ‘FTE’ is showing to the right of the child’s or young person’s details, the FTE needs to be confirmed.
If ‘FTE’ isn’t showing to the right of the child’s or young person’s details, there is no need to confirm the FTE.
