Manage your tax credits
Tax credits end on 5 April 2025. No more payments will be made after that. You’ll be sent a letter in 2024 if you are eligible for Universal Credit or Pension Credit instead.
Use this service to:
- report actual income from self-employment if you estimated it when you renewed (the deadline is 31 January)
- tell HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) about changes to your circumstances, for example you get married or your working hours change
- find out how much and when you’ll be paid
It’s quicker and easier to manage your tax credits online than over the phone.
This guide is also available in Welsh (Cymraeg).
Before you start
You can also manage your tax credits through the HMRC app. Watch a video about using the app to manage your tax credits
You’ll need to sign in to use this service. If you do not already have sign in details, you’ll be able to create them.
You’ll be told when you sign in if you need to prove your identity. This is to keep your details safe and usually involves using photo ID like a passport or driving licence.
Signing in will also activate your personal tax account - you can use this to check and manage your HMRC records.
You cannot claim tax credits and Universal Credit at the same time. Your tax credits will stop if you or your partner apply for Universal Credit. Check how tax credits and Universal Credit affect each other.
Renewing your tax credits
You can no longer use this service to renew your tax credits for the 2023 to 2024 tax year. The deadline was 31 July 2024.
Find out what to do if you missed the deadline for renewing or there’s a mistake on your award notice.
