Bought a vehicle into the trade
You must make sure that:
- the name and address on the log book (V5C) are correct
- any personalised registration numbers have been kept or transferred
You’ll need:
- the 11 digit reference number from the latest log book
- consent of the seller to act on their behalf
Destroy the yellow ‘sell, transfer or part-exchange your vehicle to the motor trade’ section from the log book when you’ve completed the service. You do not need to send it to DVLA.
What happens next
The vehicle’s registered keeper will be removed from DVLA records. They’ll be sent confirmation by post.
The registered keeper will automatically get a refund cheque for any full months left on their vehicle tax. The refund is calculated from the date DVLA gets the information.
Other ways to apply
If you cannot use the online service, you’ll need to fill in the yellow ‘sell, transfer or part-exchange’ section with your trader details. Send the perforated section to DVLA.
