Update your UK Visas and Immigration account details
Overview
You must make sure your UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account is up to date so that:
- you can view your online immigration status (eVisa) and get a share code to prove your immigration status to others, for example employers, landlords or airline staff
- UKVI can contact you, for example if you’re waiting for a visa decision or to have your documents returned
- you can travel with your current identity documents, for example your passport
If you do not have the correct identity document in your UKVI account you may be delayed at the border when entering the UK.
What you need to update
You should update your UKVI account every time you change your:
- mobile phone number
- email address
- name
- identity document, such as your passport or national identity card
- home address
- postal address
You can also:
- correct your date of birth
- add an extra nationality - for example if you have dual nationality
- add an extra identity document
- change your photo, for example if your appearance has changed and you can no longer be recognised from your photo
- give someone else access to your visa applications, if you’d like them to help you apply
- give someone else ownership of the UKVI account, if you set up the account on their behalf
You cannot change your identity document or name if you’re waiting for a decision on a visa application.
Who has a UKVI account
You’ll have a UK Visas and Immigration account if you’ve ever:
- applied to the EU Settlement Scheme
- used the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app to prove your identity when applying for a visa
- created one when applying for a visa (you’ll have received a UKVI account confirmation email)
- created one to get access to an eVisa (an online record of your immigration status)
There’s a different way to update your details if you do not have a UKVI account.
