The Science & Innovation Network (SIN) in Indonesia maintains and develops science, innovation, and technology (ST&I) collaboration in priority areas between the UK and Indonesia.

This cooperation addresses global developments and challenges including global health security, climate change, and emerging technologies.

SIN Indonesia works with DSIT (Department for Science, Innovation and Technology), FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office), DBT (Department for Business and Trade) and teams at the British Embassy.

SIN Indonesia aims to make the UK a preferred partner for Indonesian researchers, policymakers, and universities for ST&I. We do this by identifying opportunities for UK organisations and connecting them with Indonesian government agencies, ministries, universities and research institutes.

Responsibilities and priorities

SIN Indonesia’s priorities include:

  • sustainable energy including climate change
  • health
  • biodiversity
  • oceans and sustainable aquaculture

All of these themes include digital and technology elements, including artificial intelligence (AI).

The Indonesian government is interested in capacity building activities, including:

  • joint partnerships in research
  • learning and development opportunities for early career researchers
  • linking up researchers from Indonesia with UK counterparts
