The Electronic Communications (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019

This instrument makes technical amendments to legislation relating to the notification of personal data breaches by providers of electronic communications services, and revokes direct EU legislation which is redundant or otherwise inappropriate to retain on the UK’s statute book after exit from the EU.

Sifting committees’ recommendation

The Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee agreed with the government that this statutory instrument does not have to have a debate in parliament, though one may still occur. However, the European Statutory Instruments Committee disagreed with the government and recommended that this statutory instrument needs to be debated in parliament.
