Energy infrastructure development applications: carbon capture readiness decisions
Secretary of State decisions on areas identified for potential usage in carbon capture readiness (CCR) reports.
An applicant’s choice of storage area at the CCR stage is not binding. It therefore follows that an applicant’s choice of storage area at the CCR stage does not confer priority on that applicant for use of that storage area when carbon capture and storage (CCS) is deployed on their power station. Operators will be required to obtain a permit from the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) and a lease from the Crown Estate in order to store CO2 offshore when CCS is operational.
