NHS IT: Local Service Provider contracts
Local Service Providers (LSP) provided electronic care record systems and services to the healthcare system in England.
There are 2 remaining LSP contracts, one with BT and one with CSC, will come to an end in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Whilst IT systems and services continue to be made available under these contracts healthcare providers are working to secure their own replacement systems to ensure the continuity of services when the LSP contracts end.
The department is providing support and guidance to healthcare providers to make the transition to the replacement services as efficient and seamless as possible.
Electronic health records are important in meeting the challenge set by the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, for the NHS to become paperless by 2018
