Energy Market Investigation (Prepayment Charge Restriction) Order 2016

This order introduces a price cap until 2020 for domestic prepayment customers not on an excluded smart meter.

Explanatory note

Details

The order requires retail electricity and gas suppliers to ensure that the aggregate amount of all charges for electricity and gas for each prepayment customer does not exceed a maximum level for a given period.

Compliance statements

Retail energy suppliers must submit a prepayment charge restriction compliance statement to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) no more than 45 days after the end of each charge restriction period or such later date as agreed from time to time with the CMA.
