The UK is a longstanding advocate for, and investor in, global health. A systems strengthening approach is at the heart of our approach. Taking this approach means we do not need to choose between a focus on global health security, achieving universal health coverage (UHC) or ending the preventable deaths of mothers and children. A strong and inclusive health system is a foundation stone to achieving all health outcomes.

This position paper sets out how FCDO will work with our partners to build strong, resilient and inclusive health systems, an important priority in the Integrated Review. It sets out 5 key principles behind our approach and the areas that we will focus on with more intent. In conjunction with the Ending preventable deaths of mothers, babies and children approach paper, it reaffirms our commitment to improve health around the world through our collective development, diplomacy, technical and research efforts.
