On 19 March 2015, Brandon Lewis, Minister for Housing and Planning and Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture and the Digital Economy wrote to council leaders in England.

They highlighted the important role local planning authorities have in supporting the rollout of superfast broadband when developing and updating local plans and considering planning applications.

The Department for Culture, Media & Sport leads on superfast broadband policy.
