Understanding the cost of poor housing to health: BRE briefing papers

Details

BRE (Building Research Establishment) produced the ‘Homes and Ageing in England’ briefing paper on behalf of PHE, using English Housing Survey data.

This paper provides an overview of the housing conditions of older people, and estimates the cost to the NHS in England of the poor housing occupied by the older population. This older population is examined by 4 age bands:

  • 55 to 64 years
  • 65 to 74 years
  • 75 years and over
  • 80 years and over

This paper builds on the first paper, which quantifies the cost to the NHS of people living in poor and sub-standard housing in England
