Investigatory Powers Act: codes of practice

Codes of practice setting out processes and safeguards for a number of investigatory powers.

These codes of practice, which have been approved by both Houses of Parliament, set out processes and safeguards for the use of investigatory powers by public authorities including bulk acquisition of communications data, Intelligence services’ retention and use of bulk personal datasets, equipment interference, interception of communications and national security notices.

Eight new and updated codes were laid before Parliament on 31 March 2025. This page will be updated once these codes have been brought into force.
