Use form RM01 to apply for a licence to import live animals covered by the Rabies Order (Importation of Dogs, Cats and Other Mammals) 1974.

Guidance note RM01A explains how to complete the form.

This licence does not cover pet dogs, cats or ferrets.

Some imported animals are exempt from quarantine if there is little risk of rabies - APHA will decide if quarantine is necessary when they receive the completed form.

1. 16 October 2024

   Added the latest version of 'RM01A: Guidance notes for application for a licence to import live animals other than pet dogs, cats and ferrets'. Updated 'Annex II part A: Decision tree for reduction in quarantine for exotics in zoos from EU countries' to indicate that primates and carnivores must go to a Balai approved premises.

2. 19 August 2024

   Updated the document RM01: Application for a licence to import live animals other than pet dogs, cats and ferrets. The For Official Use Only box at section 4d has been updated with new references to the relevant GB health certificates and import information note. Updated the document RM01A: Guidance notes for application for a licence to import live animals other than pet dogs, cats and ferrets. The link in Section 5 to the Balai approved establishment has been updated.
