It reflects the extensive range of challenges faced by defence and security. It is not a list of projects but rather themes around which defence’s challenges exist. This document aligns to and supports the MOD science and technology strategy.
Departmental ARIs respond to the recommendation of the 2015 Nurse review of Research Councils for ‘a more systematic expression of Government’s own research needs’ in order to develop a more sophisticated dialogue with academia and UK research institutes. ARIs set out the most important research questions confronting each department, to improve transparency around the government’s research and evidence needs.
