Details

This prison service order (PSO) outlines the policy on paying prisoners for taking part in prison activities, including work, education and training. It also includes guidance for prisons on setting up and maintaining a fair, balanced and affordable pay structure.

It covers:

  • the policy on prisoners’ pay
  • rates of pay
  • awarding bonuses for good performance or attendance
  • deducting pay for poor performance or attendance
  • special circumstances, such as sickness or pregnancy
  • reviewing and monitoring pay

This is a current PSO. It came into effect on 7 January 2002 and was last updated on 27 January 2020.
