The CDEI has been working with BEIS to develop the features of trustworthy Smart Data schemes. As part of this, it commissioned Deltapoll to survey 2051 UK adults online between 31 March-7 April 2021, to develop its understanding of consumers’ hopes, fears and priorities in the design, development and delivery of these schemes. The dataset has been weighted to be representative of the UK adult population as a whole. The findings from the polling are explored in the blog, Part one: Examining public attitudes towards Smart Data schemes.

Following the polling, the CDEI engaged a diverse group of the public in focus groups. This allowed the CDEI to explore the priorities and concerns of different groups (including microbusiness owners), and test the assumptions it had about how to establish ethical and trustworthy Smart Data schemes. The findings from the focus groups are the subject of the blog, Part two: Examining public attitudes towards Smart Data schemes.

The insights are informing the development of Smart Data schemes and services through an interactive guide the CDEI is developing with BEIS to support decision-makers in designing, developing and implementing ethical and trustworthy Smart Data schemes.
