This practice note (PN1) sets out the Public Guardian’s guidance to fee-paid professionals who agree to be appointed as an attorney under a lasting power of attorney (LPA).

The note covers the period before the attorney begins to act under the LPA.

It includes advice on:

  • taking instructions from donors
  • preparing to act under the LPA
  • what happens after the LPA is created
  • record keeping
