The letter from the Department for Communities and Local Government outlines a revised intervention package made by the Secretary of State.
The Directions return the licensing function to the council to exercise. This is based on a proposal by the Lead Commissioner as set out in his 10 May 2016 letter and further supporting evidence.
The Directions have been made by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government under section 15(5) and (6) of the Local Government Act 1999 and the Secretary of State for Education under section 497A(4B) of the Education Act 1996.
An accompanying explanatory memorandum sets out the circumstances in which these Directions have been made, the reasons for exercising these powers and the implications of the Directions for the Authority.
Also attached are the representations the Secretary of State received from the Authority which are referenced in the explanatory memorandum.
See documents relating to the proposed return of the licensing function to the council and documents relating to the original intervention.
Information about the work of the commissioners can be found on the Commissioners’ web pages on the Rotherham Council website.
