The Smart Systems and Heat (SSH) Programme aims to overcome the barriers to the decarbonisation of residential heat.

Phase 2, 2017 to 2019

BEIS invested £9.8 million in phase 2 of the programme run by the Energy Systems Catapult. This phase builds on the work from phase 1, including:

  • developing a ‘Home Energy Services Gateway’ to change the relationship between consumers, heating systems, and energy suppliers
  • working with local authorities on low energy plans, including the support the development and expansion of domestic low carbon heating projects

Phase 1, 2015 to 2018

SSH Phase 1 (2015-2018) focused on developing capabilities, tools and insights for Local Energy System Modelling and Domestic Energy Services. It was delivered by the Energy Systems Catapult for the Energy Technologies Institute.
