Details

This prison service order (PSO) sets out the requirements for prisons to provide an effective, evidence-based treatment service for prisoners who need help with substance misuse.

It covers:

  • identifying, assessing and treating patients in line with Department of Health guidelines
  • contributing to effective throughcare plans for patients
  • providing patients with information on preventing harmful behaviours and referring them to counselling services where appropriate

This is a current PSO. It came into effect on 20 December 2000.
