Details
This report has been followed by a Progress report into children’s social care services in West Sussex County Council.
This independent report by the Commissioner for children’s services in West Sussex recommends that:
- immediate steps be taken to improve services for children
- a new company be established to deliver children’s social services on behalf of West Sussex County Council
It follows the 8 May 2019 Ofsted report which judged that the council’s children’s social care services were inadequate.
The Department for Education (DfE) issued a statutory direction to West Sussex County Council on 17 December 2019 requiring the council to continue to work with the DfE-appointed commissioner and officials on:
- ongoing improvement
- setting up a company to deliver children’s social care services
