Revision note:
24 May 2024: Trade in services data for 2020 has been re-published as part of the DCMS Economic Estimates: Trade 2021 trade in services data tables.
About
These Economic Estimates are Official Statistics used to provide an estimate of the contribution of DCMS Sectors to the UK economy, measured by imports and exports of services and goods.
Content
These statistics cover the contributions of the following DCMS sectors to the UK economy;
- Creative Industries
- Cultural Sector
- Digital sector
- Gambling (services only)
- Sport
- Telecoms (services only)
- Tourism (covered on a separate basis to the other sectors)
Users should note that unlike previous years, there are no breakdowns available by world regions of individual countries for the Tourism sector. This is because the underlying data source, the International Passenger Survey, was suspended from 16 March 2020 to January 2021 as a result of the pandemic. The headline figures can be found in Chapter 1 of the statistical release and on the Overseas travel and tourism: 2020 ONS publication page.
A definition for each sector is available in the associated methodology note along with details of methods and data limitations.

Following the identification of an error in November 2023 in the DCMS Economic Estimates: Trade 2021 trade in services data tables, we have reviewed all previously published trade in services tables. We have taken down the trade in services 2020 tables while we investigate this error further. Trade in services tables published for previous years are not affected by this error. The headline release, trade in goods tables and trade in tourism tables are also unaffected by this change.
