Statistics on road freight transported by UK registered Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) internationally in 2021.

International road freight by UK-registered HGVs transporting freight internationally decreased in 2020.

There were decreases compared to 2020 of:

  • 20% in the amount of goods lifted, to 5.2 million tonnes
  • 15% in the amount of goods moved, to 3.3 billion tonne kilometres

The previous announcements of the UK leaving the EU and subsequent transition period, along with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and resulting supply chain disruption, have caused higher levels of volatility in freight statistics over the past 2 years. Therefore, caution should be taken when comparing these data to previous time periods.
