Cancel your registration for Economic Crime Levy

Find out how to cancel an Economic Crime Levy registration.

If you’re no longer liable to pay the Economic Crime Levy you can cancel your registration. For example, if you:

  • have stopped anti-money laundering regulated activities
  • are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority or the Gambling Commission
  • no longer meet the revenue threshold for Economic Crime Levy

Before you cancel

Make sure you have:

  • submitted any outstanding Economic Crime Levy returns
  • made any final payments due

How to cancel

You must use the online service to ask HMRC to de-register you from the levy online.

You’ll need to sign in to the service with the Government Gateway user ID you used to register for the Economic Crime Levy.

You’ll need to confirm the date from which you are no longer liable and provide a reason why you think you are no longer liable for the levy.

What happens next

It usually takes 15 working days for us to review your request.

If your request is approved, we’ll send you a letter confirming your deregistration and the date this takes effect from.

You’ll need to keep all records up to your deregistration date for 6 years.
