Register for the Economic Crime Levy
Find out when and how to register and how to amend a registration for the Economic Crime Levy.
Before registering, you should check if you need to register for the Economic Crime Levy.
When to register
You must register before you submit a return for the Economic Crime Levy as soon as you can, this is because payments for the levy are due by 30 September of every year.
What you will need
You’ll need to tell us:
- information about your UK revenue for the last financial year
- the date when your organisation started anti-money laundering-regulated activities, if you started in the past financial year
- the business sector your organisation operates in
- information about the length of your accounting period
You’ll also need to tell us the contact details of someone in your organisation, including their:
- name
- role
- email address
- telephone number
If you are a general partnership or a Scottish partnership
You’ll also need to tell us:
- your partnership Unique Tax Reference
- the postcode you use for Self Assessment
If you are a limited company
You’ll also need to tell us your:
- company registration number
- Corporation Tax Unique Tax Reference
If you are a limited liability partnership or a limited partnership
You’ll also need to tell us:
- your partnership company registration number
- your partnership Unique Tax Reference
- the postcode you use for Self Assessment
If you are an unlimited company or a Scottish limited partnership
You’ll also need to tell us your:
- company registration number
- Corporation Tax Unique Tax Reference
If you are a sole trader
You’ll also need to tell us your:
- National Insurance number
- Unique Tax Reference
If you are a charity
You’ll also need to tell us your:
- charity registration number
- company registration number
- business name
If you are a trust
You’ll also need to tell us your:
- Corporation Tax Unique Tax Reference
- company name
If you are an unincorporated association
You’ll also need to tell us your:
- Corporation Tax Unique Tax Reference — if you have one
- company name
- postcode
If you are a registered society
You’ll also need to tell us your:
- company registration number
- registered society Unique Tax Reference
If you are a non-UK establishment
You’ll also need to tell us your:
- Self Assessment Unique Tax Reference
- Corporation Tax Unique Tax Reference
- company name
- company registration number — if you have one
How to register
You must use the online service to register for the Economic Crime Levy if you are supervised by HMRC or one of the professional bodies.
To register, you’ll need the Government Gateway user ID and password of the person or entity who is completing the registration.
If you do not have a user ID, you can create one when you register.
If you are registering more than one entity, you’ll need to create a separate Government Gateway User ID and password for each one.
Online services may be slow during busy times. Check if there are any problems with this service.

After you have registered
You will receive an Economic Crime Levy registration number. You will need to keep it for your records because every year you will need to submit a return for the Economic Crime Levy.
If you need to amend your registration
You can change your registration if:
- the original information you gave us is wrong
- your circumstances have changed
To amend your registration, sign in to your Economic Crime Levy account.

Make sure your details are up to date in your Economic Crime Levy account or you could fail telephone security.
If you have already registered, you will need your Economic Crime Levy registration number. You can find this:
- in your Economic Crime Levy account
- in your HMRC business tax account if you have one
- on the confirmation email HMRC sent you to confirm your Economic Crime Levy return had been submitted
