Public access to military areas

Information about public access to military-owned land.

Read about accessing the Defence Training Estate safely.

MOD land should be accessed where and when it is safe to do so. Please read the safety information before accessing a military site.

Our guidance sets out simple steps to take when visiting MOD land to help keep you and our armed forces safe. This includes:

  • checking armed forces firing and training times before visiting
  • paying attention to signage, information displays and red flags
  • not touching any military debris – report its location for safe disposal

Further information on access restrictions can be found on the MOD byelaws.

Telephone numbers are provided for enquiries only. In an emergency always phone 999.
