EXPP5070 - Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) export declarations: connection methods
Note: This manual is under review following Brexit and is likely to be withdrawn. If there is anything within this manual you use regularly, please email hmrcmanualsteam@hmrc.gov.uk to let us know. Please check the other guidance available on GOV.UK from HMRC.
The methods available are as follows:
- a conventional telephone line and Modem (Modulator/Demodulator)
- ISDN-2 line and interface board or terminal adapter
- leased telecommunications circuit (this option would only be cost effective where large volumes of data need to be speedily transmitted) or
- Internet e forms on and off line which can also be downloaded for completion
The trader will need software which convert data submissions/declarations into the required EDIFACT or XML message and convert the EDIFACT or XML response into a form that can be processed by their system.
