EXPP5220 - Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) export declarations: notice to traders

If a break occurs with one of the routes into CHIEF and/or the Government Gateway, Customs will first investigate the reason behind the failed connections before considering the adoption of fallback measures.

Should CHIEF be unavailable messages will be relayed to the trade via our CSP lists on the HMRC section of the GOV.UK website and our NES helpline in Cardiff.

Details will also be notified to the National Advice Service.
