Details

This prison service order (PSO) contains guidance for prisons on ensuring continuity of healthcare for prisoners during their time in the prison system. It focuses on the points where prisoners are being moved from one place to another and their healthcare is at the greatest risk of interruption, such as entering prison, going to court or being released.

The guidance covers:

  • reception procedures
  • information management
  • escorts and bedwatches
  • transferring a prisoner
  • significant life events affecting the health of a prisoner
  • release procedures

This is a current PSO. It came into effect on 10 February 2006.
