This study was commissioned by the Office for Product Safety and Standards from Electrical Safety First (ESF). Its objective was to understand how second-hand electrical products are sold around the UK. One aim was to capture data on offline sales channels. To this end 222 second-hand sales outlets ranging from local independent charities to nationally represented retail chains to car boot sales were visited in eight regions, selected to ensure demographic and geographic variance. Electrical products were sold or advertised in 35 per cent of them.
