Industrial Energy Transformation Fund
The Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) supports the development and deployment of technologies that enable businesses with high energy use to transition to a low carbon future.
The Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) is designed to help businesses with high energy use to cut their energy bills and carbon emissions through investing in energy efficiency and low carbon technologies.
The IETF launched in 2020, and is in 3 phases with £500 million of funding available up until 2028.
For more information about the IETF and the application process contact ietf@energysecurity.gov.uk.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero manages the IETF for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. If your site is based in Scotland, there is a separate scheme: contact the Scottish Government at SIETF@gov.scot.
IETF Phase 3
Following a 2023 consultation on the design, Phase 3 launched in January 2024.
The Spring 2024 competition opens to applications on Monday 29 January, closing on 19 April 2024. There will be a second competition window later in 2024. Phase 3 will provide up to £185 million in funding between 2024 and 2028.
We continually review the design and delivery of the Fund to take feedback into account and ensure the success of the programme. This means the scheme may have changed so please visit the competition page for the current guidance.
IETF Phases 1 and 2: competition winners
We will publish summaries of winning projects from all Phase 1 and 2 competition windows here.
IETF Phase 2 (closed)
Phase 2 expanded the IETF scope to additionally support the deployment of decarbonisation technologies. It will provide around £220 million in funding between Autumn 2021 and 2027.
We are assessing the Phase 2: Summer 2022 and Autumn 2022 applications. Successful applicants for the Phase 2: Autumn 2021 and Spring 2022 windows are undergoing due diligence.
The policy statement outlines the Phase 2 structure and design.
IETF Phase 1
Phase 1 supported the deployment of energy efficiency projects as well as energy efficiency and decarbonisation studies.
The two Phase 1 competitions ran between July 2020 and July 2021.
