Statistics: pupil attendance and absence
Fortnightly pupil attendance statistics, and autumn, combined autumn and spring, and full year pupil absence statistics.
Pupil attendance statistics
Pupil attendance stats began in September 2022 and past releases are available on Explore education statistics. These statistics are derived from regular data automatically submitted daily to the Department by participating schools. Pupil attendance publication figures are published fortnightly. They can be an early indicator for the more detailed but less regular pupil absence statistics.
These continue a series of pupil attendance statistics released between 2020 and 2022 that were sourced from the daily education settings status form and monthly local authority early years survey.
Pupil absence statistics
Pupil absence statistics from May 2010 onwards are available on GOV.UK. Archived statistics are available in the National Archives. Note: the search function is not available on archived content, so you should use the filters on the left of each page.
Pupil absence publication statistics are derived from the termly school census. We no longer publish spring term pupil absence statistics in August. There are 3 pupil absence releases: autumn term (published in May), combined autumn and spring term release (published in October) and full year (published in March).
