Pupil attendance statistics

Since September 2022, the Department for Education has collected pupil attendance stats from regular data which participating schools automatically submit.

We publish pupil attendance publication figures fortnightly. They can be an early indicator for the more detailed but less regular pupil absence statistics.

We also released pupil attendance statistics between 2020 and 2022. We sourced these from the daily education settings status form and monthly local authority early years survey.

Pupil absence statistics

We derive pupil absence publication statistics from the termly school census.

We publish 3 pupil absence releases:

  • autumn term, published in May
  • combined autumn and spring term release, published in October
  • full year, published in March

Pupil absence statistics from before May 2010 are available in the UK Government Web Archives.
