DfT: compliance with the Equality Duty
Explains the work being done by Department for Transport to comply with the Equality Duty.
The Equality Act 2010 contains a new integrated public sector Equality Duty, which came into force on 5 April 2011. It requires public bodies to have due regard to the following to make society fairer:
- eliminating unlawful discrimination
- advancing equality of opportunity
- fostering good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
These documents are used by the Department for Transport (DfT) to inform our decision-making. They explain the work being done to comply with the general Equality Duty. They include research being undertaken by DfT and external bodies.
